on creativity

My dear friend Natalie Smith sent myself and the girls a link to a film on Natasha Khan of Bat for Lashes. This was some months a go and I am only sitting with this now. Perhaps for me, it's perfect timing.

"I think, sometimes the past can be something you carry without realizing it, and it may be that in order to move forward you have to make peace with the past".

"I think it's really important to follow your gut instincts and your heart when you're on the brink of making something, because if you become too pragmatic in your mind about things, I think you can often kill the playful and inquistic energy that it takes to make something interesting."

"As I go on I realize that in order to be a happy person I need to combine the dark and the light, and integrate them so that I feel like a whole person so that I'm not just one aspect, I'm not one extreme."

"I don't know where I'm going to go from here, I think you can only really be in the moment because I know, if I think a few years ahead it is really terrifying. I just hope that I can continue to make innovative and interesting work for me, that makes me happy and hopefully people really enjoy it."
